Overview of Vandalon IV
Vandalon IV is one of the five planets in the Trigon Sector, characterized by vast glaciers, frigid tundras, and massive rivers of thick ice. This arctic world remains in a state of eternal winter, with harsh snowstorms and sub-zero temperatures dominating its surface. Despite its inhospitable conditions, terraforming efforts and industrial operations—both from Super Earth and the Automatons—have gradually begun warming the planet, leading to melting glaciers and the formation of new oceans.
Topography
Vandalon IV’s icy landscape is defined by towering frozen peaks, sprawling tundras, and frigid rivers carved by melting glaciers. Although the Automaton occupation led to significant industrialization, causing localized heating and atmospheric pollution, the planet remains largely uninhabitable without protective gear. Colonists must wear layered thermal suits when venturing outside, while daily snowstorms frequently disrupt surface travel and visibility.
History
For most of its history, Vandalon IV was a peaceful, remote colony, largely overlooked in galactic affairs. This changed during Operation Swift Disassembly, where Super Earth identified Troost as a critical Automaton communications hub. Recognizing Vandalon IV as a key stepping stone toward Troost’s liberation, Helldivers swiftly captured the frozen world on March 28th, 2184.
As the operation progressed, the Automatons discovered an alternative FTL route leading directly to Vandalon IV. With Helldivers preoccupied at Malevelon Creek, Ubanea, and Draupnir, the Automatons launched a surprise assault, threatening to undo Super Earth’s strategic gains. Although the battle was fierce, a small but determined force of Helldivers and local defenders managed to repel the attack, securing one of the most hard-fought victories of the campaign. By April 9th, 2184, Vandalon IV and its surrounding systems were firmly under the protection of Managed Democracy.
The peace was short-lived. During Operation Xzar Lockdown, while Super Earth forces concentrated on securing Mort, the Automatons launched another offensive, overwhelming Vandalon IV’s defenses and reestablishing control over the frozen wasteland on June 23rd, 2184. From here, the Automaton fleet launched multiple assaults on neighboring planets, seeking to break through Super Earth’s defensive lines.
With the success of Operation Andromeda, the Automaton front was split in half, isolating Vandalon IV within an encircled war zone. Despite heavy resistance, Helldivers launched a decisive counteroffensive, culminating in Operation Lighthouse. On August 12th, 2184, after two days of intense combat, Vandalon IV was liberated, delivering a final, crushing blow to the trapped Automaton forces.
With Troost liberated two days later, the last remnants of Automaton control in the Trigon Sector were eradicated, marking a decisive turning point in the war for Super Earth.
