Overview of Rirga Bay
Rirga Bay is one of the five planets in the Rigel Sector, known for being the deadliest battlefield in the Second Galactic War. With over 1 billion Helldivers KIA and 1.25 billion Illuminate casualties, Rirga Bay holds the highest recorded death toll of the war.
Topography
Rirga Bay’s landscape is similar to Skaash and Botein, characterized by vast green dune seas, rolling hills, and sparse vegetation. The planet’s remote location and harsh conditions made early colonization difficult, delaying urban development for decades.
History
Rirga Bay was a peaceful frontier colony of Super Earth, settled long after the First Galactic War. Due to its remoteness, the colony took decades to establish urban settlements and economic stability. However, as prosperity grew, an ancient enemy long thought extinct turned its gaze upon Rirga Bay.
On January 17th, 2185, the Illuminate launched an invasion fleet, targeting Rirga Bay as part of a “planet-hopping” campaign that had begun in December 2184. However, this strategic move backfired when the Helldivers, armed with the newly repaired and upgraded Democracy Space Station, deployed en masse to counter the attack.
For 10 relentless hours, Helldivers engaged the Illuminate forces in brutal combat, utilizing orbital strikes, mechanized units, and overwhelming firepower. The battle ended in a decisive Helldiver victory, with the Illuminate retreating in disarray after suffering catastrophic losses.
Despite this victory, the war on Rirga Bay was far from over. As the Illuminate continued their raids across the Rigel Sector, they successfully plundered key planets, forcing Super Earth High Command to declare Operation Democracy Delivered a failure. By January 22nd, the Helldivers were redirected to defend critical war zones, such as Cirrus and Vernen Wells. Amidst this relocation of forces, the Illuminate launched a second assault on Rirga Bay, which, while not fully repelled, faced fierce Helldiver resistance.
