Overview of RD-4

RD-4 is one of the five planets in the Rigel Sector, positioned at the southernmost frontier of Super Earth’s controlled space, bordering uncharted deep-space territories. Alongside Rogue 5, it is one of the most remote colonies, making it both a strategic outpost and a vulnerable target for external threats.

Topography

RD-4’s terrain is similar to Rasp, consisting of rocky wastelands, deep valleys, and scattered mountainous regions. The planet’s harsh climate and unpredictable dust storms make navigation difficult, but its rich mineral deposits have fueled steady economic growth.

History

RD-4 was initially discovered during the First Galactic War, but due to its extreme remoteness, proper colonization did not begin until decades later, during the Great Democratization. This delay allowed for small but resilient communities to develop, forming tight-knit settlements that thrived despite the harsh environment and limited resources.

However, this peaceful isolation would not last. An old enemy, once believed to be defeated, had set its gaze upon RD-4. The Illuminate, a xenophobic alien race hellbent on destroying Managed Democracy, launched a sudden invasion on January 1st, 2185.

The Illuminate’s previous raids on Hort and Hesoe Prime in late December 2184 had been successful, emboldening them to push further into Super Earth’s frontier territories. However, they underestimated the Helldivers, who had just secured victories at Kharst, Parsh, and Liberty Ridge. The Helldivers immediately deployed to RD-4 in full force, delivering a resounding defeat to the invading Illuminate forces and forcing them into a hasty retreat.

Despite this victory, the Illuminate’s hunger for conquest remained unshaken. As their raids continued throughout the Southern Galactic Rim, their forces regrouped and launched a second assault on RD-4 on January 20th, 2185. Unfortunately, the Helldivers were delayed by concurrent battles at Alathfar XI and Heeth, along with ongoing operations utilizing the Democracy Space Station. This stretched Super Earth’s forces too thin, allowing the Illuminate to plunder RD-4 before escaping unscathed.
