Overview of Maia
Maia is one of the five planets in the Severin Sector, primarily known for being one of the final strongholds of the first Automaton fleet. Its strategic location played a crucial role in Operation Swift Disassembly, making its liberation a turning point in the campaign against the Automatons.
Topography
Maia is a cold, rocky moon with a cratered and hilly landscape. The terrain is mostly grayscale, with little natural vegetation beyond dry grass and sparse bushes. While the surface is relatively open and provides excellent long-distance visibility, it is also highly prone to meteor storms, which create lethal shockwaves upon impact.
The moon has polar oceans, but they are concentrated at the north and south poles, making them rarely visible during standard operations.
Operation Swift Disassembly
The Battle of Maia began following the completion of Phase 3 of Operation Swift Disassembly, a major campaign to eradicate the Automaton fleet. With the final Major Order, Helldivers were tasked with liberating Maia, Durgen, and Tibit, the last occupied planets in the sector.
SEAF prioritized Maia’s liberation first, as securing it provided a critical pathway to the Trigon Sector. This strategic victory crippled the Automatons’ reinforcement capabilities, ensuring their final production centers were effectively eliminated. Tibit followed soon after, leaving Durgen as the last remaining Automaton stronghold in the Severin Sector.
The battle came at a heavy cost, with 23.5 million Helldivers perishing on the rocky moon. Following its liberation, SEAF intelligence teams scoured Automaton facilities for additional data—until their efforts were abruptly redirected by the surprise invasion of the Valdis Sector days later.
