Overview of Iro

Iro is one of the seven planets in the Rictus Sector, known for its challenging terrain and difficult settlement process following the First Galactic War. Despite its unstable mud plains and lack of fertile soil, Super Earth colonists successfully urbanized the planet, turning it into a self-sustaining colony. However, its stability was shattered by the return of the Illuminate, who targeted Iro in a series of raids during the Second Galactic War.

Topography

Iro’s terrain is similar to Bashyr, featuring vast expanses of unstable mud with limited solid ground for construction. The harsh environmental conditions made early colonization difficult, but urbanization efforts eventually succeeded, leading to a thriving colony despite its challenges.

History

For most of its existence, Iro remained a peaceful Super Earth colony, gradually developing despite its naturally unstable landscape. Colonists worked tirelessly to stabilize the land, eventually establishing permanent settlements and integrating the planet into Super Earth’s expanding network of colonies.

However, peace would not last. The Illuminate, once thought to be eradicated, returned from exile, launching a renewed campaign against Super Earth. By December 2184, they began targeting key planets, striking colony worlds in the Southern Galactic Rim.

On December 28th, 2184, Iro fell prey to an Illuminate raid, part of a larger offensive across the Rictus Sector. The Helldivers received orders to repel all Illuminate incursions, while also eliminating Voteless and Illuminate Harvesters. In response, they immediately deployed onto Iro, determined to avenge the recent attack on Julheim and reinforced by their victory at Volterra. The Helldivers successfully repelled the raid, temporarily forcing the Illuminate to withdraw.

For two weeks, Iro remained in a state of armed peace, with its colonists on high alert as the Illuminate continued attacking neighboring sectors. However, the peace was short-lived. On January 5th, 2185, Iro faced a second invasion, but this time, the Helldivers were preoccupied with operations in the Marspira Sector. With only a small contingent left behind, Iro’s defenders now faced a daunting battle for survival against the relentless Illuminate forces.
