Overview of Hellmire
Hellmire is one of the four habitable planets in the Mirin Sector, infamous for its harsh, unforgiving desert landscapes and brutal environmental hazards. Alongside Oshaune, it serves as a critical border planet with the Draco Sector, featuring a strategic supply line to Estanu.
Topography
Hellmire has earned a reputation as the Terminid Front’s equivalent to Malevelon Creek, notorious for its scorching deserts, lethal fire tornadoes, and extreme atmospheric conditions. The planet’s fiery storms indiscriminately incinerate both humans and Terminids, making it one of the most hostile environments in the galaxy.
The landscape is interspersed with craggy canyons and narrow ravines, which may hinder movement. SEAF personnel are advised to avoid lingering in these areas, as being caught in a canyon during one of Hellmire’s firestorms is almost certain death. While there is some plant life, it is highly adapted to extreme heat and fire propagation, much like certain species found on the southern continent of Sector One.
History
Hellmire first became a site of Helldiver expeditions following the activation of the Terminid Control System (TCS) on the Barrier Planets, allowing Super Earth forces to push the Terminid menace into the Mirin and Draco Sectors. However, the planet’s extreme conditions made large-scale operations difficult, leading Super Earth High Command to prioritize more strategically viable targets.
In March 2184, Hellmire was one of four planets chosen for Civilian Biomass Collection Team (CBCT) operations, alongside Fori Prime, Crimsica, and Estanu. The Helldivers were tasked with defending these operations, ensuring the successful extraction of valuable resources. Despite severe environmental hazards and Terminid incursions, the mission was completed successfully.
In April 2184, Hellmire was designated as a potential site for E-710 farms, alongside Crimsica and Estanu. These farms were intended to enhance Super Earth’s resource production in the region. However, shortly after construction began, Terminid hordes overwhelmed the installations, forcing Super Earth forces to abandon the project.
Following the failure of the Terminid Control System, Hellmire remained inaccessible for months, with the Terminid infestation spiraling out of control. On May 30, 2184, the destruction of the Terminid Supercolony on Meridia using Dark Fluid bombardment provided an opportunity to reclaim the planet.
In June 2184, the development of the Hive Breaker drill allowed for deep strikes into Terminid-occupied planets. Hellmire, along with Estanu, Crimsica, Fori Prime, and Nivel 43, was targeted for immediate liberation. By June 19th, the Helldivers had successfully retaken the planet, bathing its burning deserts in the blood of the Terminids.
However, the peace would not last. In July 2184, Terminid assaults on both Hellmire and Esker intensified due to the diversion of Helldiver forces to the Automaton Front during Operation Andromeda. Despite a successful defense on July 11th, a second, overwhelming assault on July 13th led to the fall of Hellmire on July 14th, alongside Estanu and Esker.
Following Operation Andromeda, The Gloom—a massive, Terminid-infested nebula—expanded at an unprecedented rate, completely engulfing Hellmire within hours. All Super Earth satellites lost contact, and all reconnaissance attempts resulted in complete signal loss. Since then, the Terminids have used Hellmire as a launching point for relentless assaults on Fenrir III and Erata Prime, forcing the Helldivers into a defensive standstill.
On February 15, 2185, a new Terminid mutation, the Predator Strain, emerged from Hellmire’s depths, launching a massive assault on Fenrir III and its Centre of Science. The Helldivers, facing an unprecedented enemy, fought for 35 grueling hours, ultimately defeating the strain and preventing a potential galactic catastrophe. However, the Terminid plague persists, and Hellmire remains one of the most dangerous and enigmatic battlegrounds in the ongoing war.
