Overview of Choepessa IV
Choepessa IV is one of the four planets in the Trigon Sector, notable for its transition from a lush jungle world to a frozen wasteland. Once teeming with vegetation, large bodies of water, and vibrant wildlife, the planet underwent a rapid climate shift following the First Galactic War, leaving it a cold, desolate graveyard. Despite its harsh environment, Choepessa IV remains strategically significant, as its rich E-710 deposits have made it a target for conflict across both Galactic Wars.
Topography
Choepessa IV’s surface is dominated by colossal skeletal remains, moss-covered rock formations, and vast icy plains. Geological studies indicate that one hundred years ago, the planet was a warm, tropical world. However, a series of orbital bombardments and natural climate shifts triggered a catastrophic ice age, freezing 98.7% of its native flora and fauna.
While Super Earth scientists maintain that the planet’s transformation is a natural phenomenon, critics have pointed to the extensive resource extraction operations and past military engagements as potential contributors to the environmental collapse. Regardless, Choepessa IV’s frigid wastelands now stand as a grim testament to the cost of war.
History
During the First Galactic War, Choepessa IV was overrun by the Terminids, requiring a large-scale Helldiver campaign to reclaim the planet. The battle saw an immense deployment of orbital ordnance, so intense that ash and debris occluded the planet’s sun for an entire lunar cycle. In the aftermath, large E-710 deposits were discovered beneath the surface, leading to extensive colonization efforts by Super Earth settlers. Following its liberation, the planet remained peaceful for nearly a century until climatic changes and Super Earth’s industrial expansion altered its landscape. As its orbit gradually shifted, decreasing sunlight levels triggered polar glacier expansion, culminating in the near-total extinction of native species and the transformation of Choepessa IV into a barren, frozen world.
With the rise of the Automaton threat, Choepessa IV’s strategic significance grew, as its rich E-710 resources made it a prime target. After the fall of Cyberstan and the collapse of the Menkent Line, the planet became a key staging ground for Automaton reinforcements, leading to a prolonged asymmetric conflict between Helldivers and entrenched robotic forces. The Automatons used Choepessa IV as a launch point for an invasion of the Trigon Sector, capturing Varylia 5, Ustotu, and neighboring worlds. The Helldivers, though unable to prevent the fall of the sector, managed to secure the Petafactory on Varylia 5, delaying full Automaton control.
As the Helldivers attempted to regain lost ground, the Automatons launched successive assaults on Varylia 5, successfully reclaiming Troost and reinforcing Ustotu. With these victories, the Automatons solidified their grip on the Trigon Sector, using Choepessa IV as a fortified base of operations. The Helldivers then launched a massive counteroffensive, successfully liberating Aesir Pass, Marfark, Matar Bay, and Martale. These victories disrupted Automaton defensive lines, forcing a sector-wide retreat. Recognizing an opportunity, Super Earth High Command ordered a Major Offensive, targeting Choepessa IV, Charon Prime, and Charbal-VII.
Charon Prime was liberated first, followed by Charbal-VII. On July 21, 2184, after weeks of intense fighting, Choepessa IV was finally liberated, breaking Automaton control over the Trigon Sector and allowing Helldivers to continue their campaign deeper into enemy territory. The liberation of Choepessa IV marked a turning point in the Western Front, proving Super Earth’s military might while delivering a decisive blow to Automaton forces.
